Mistresses of Metal’s Exclusive Interview with Roland Lee James of DEAD WEST

M.o.M: Hi, Roland! For those who are new to your fan base, tell us a little bit about DEAD WEST.
RLJ: DEAD WEST is a compilation of some very talented players and writers, that individually, have some very impressive resumes. We’re currently writing, recording, and rehearsing at Count 77 Studios, owned by Danny ” The Count” Koker of Counting Cars.
M.o.M: Very cool! You’ve had a few changes lately. Location, line-up, etc. How are those working out?
RLJ: Vinny and myself did a lot of the songwriting and pre-production in Phoenix, Az. We originally intended on doing a lot of production in Phoenix, but when we brought my old friend Troy Patrick Farrell into the picture, he suggested that we bring it all to Las Vegas. And upon my arrival, some of the other key players fell into place, and we couldn’t be happier about this current line-up!
M.o.M: What instruments do you play, and how long have you been playing?
RLJ: I’m primarily a songwriter, and have been playing guitar and bass for quite awhile. I have also worked as a guitar tech for Alice In Chains, Dokken, and others.
M.o.M: Who are some of your influences?
RLJ: Well, it all started with Donnie Osmond. And then, at the age of 11, I saw KISS on TV for the first time, and I wanted to be Ace Frehley!
M.o.M: Ironically, it all started with Donnie Osmond for me, too! Haha! Where is your favorite place to play?
RLJ: Really no favorite in particular, but I love playing shows on my old stomping ground, rather be Seattle or West Hollywood. The Marquis Theater in Phoenix s always fun!
M.o.M: What are your goals for DEAD WEST in the coming year?
RLJ: 2016 we have a lot of baby steps that will lead to some huge leaps. We have a lot of goals to accomplish in the studio, and on stages everywhere!
M.o.M: What is your favorite DEAD WEST adventure so far?
RLJ: At this point in time, the best adventure we have had so far was recording at Count 77 Studios with some very talented engineers, producers, and musicians. I cannot wait to answer the same question a year from now!!!!
M.o.M: That would be a great place to record for sure!!! Do you have anything special you do to get yourself ready for a show?
RLJ: Personally, in advance, I love going out in the crowd, thanking them for coming out.
M.o.M: Where can your fan base find you?
M.o.M: Is there anything you would like your fans to know about you?
RLJ: Yes!!! I’m a fan, too!!! I love music! There’s a time and place for everything, whether it be country, blues, rock n roll, heavy metal!!!
M.o.M: Great message!!! Thanks for taking the time! You give great interview!
RLJ: It was fun! I look forward to the next one!
